Flexible carpooling forms carpools in order of arrival at the flexible carpool park, or at the destination end pick-up point at the end of the work day. As soon as there are people there for that destination, they can fill up the car and go.

This might seem like you are getting into a car with a ‘stranger’. But really it is a member of the system, who has been checked out according to the same set of membership rules under which you were checked out. He or she is a friend whom you haven’t yet gotten to know.

Before long you will get to know these carpool friends, because most people travel at about the same time most days, and your fellow travelers will soon become nodding acquaintances.

And what about those days that you wake up feeling sicker than anyone should, or when your mother calls and you have to go help her before heading to work, or a myriad of other situations that cause you to change your plans? In a flexible carpooling system you don’t need to let anyone know. The system will keep working without you (aaaw) and will welcome you back the next time you can make it.
