The following are the components of a express carpooling system. It is created on a route by route basis.
It is a membership system involving a pre-screening process to qualify members and ensure safety. It uses flexible carpooling technology to track participation, ensure safety, and transfer ride credits. It has dedicated parking at the home end in a special design that is laid out by destination.
Carpools are formed in order of arrival (no predetermined or ‘booked’ seats, no need to call if you are late or sick).
It has specified drop-off points near work where riders leave the carpool. It has specified pick-up points near work where fuller cars are again formed at the end of the work day.
It incorporates a ‘guaranteed ride home’ system to ensure no-one is stranded, late at night or in a personal emergency.
It is supported by a website where members can provide feedback on trips, buy or sell ride credits, search for lost items or report found items, and pay the fees for using the system.
Here is an animation that shows one way that this could all work. And another.
